What Type of Witch Are You?

What does it mean to be a Witch? Wow, there’s a lot to unpack there. I won’t bore everyone with a history lesson, I would assume most of you here are familiar. I have found though that “Witch” is really just a label for a powerful woman. For better or worse it has been given to women who are healers, psychics, community pillars, wise women, root workers, conjurers, hoodoo and voodoo queens, astrologists, shamans, and many others. As a Witch, you come to find that you gravitate towards certain work. This pull or gravitation can be fun to name, and this is really what I mean by “What Type of Witch” are you. Do you have to be a specific TYPE of Witch and only practice in that way? Of course not! Can your practice change, evolve, and develop over time? Heck yeah! This is really just for fun. Let me know what type of Witch resonates with you! I think I embody little bits of most of them, but I’m most drawn to Sea Witch and Kitchen Witch!

Hedge Witch

A Hedge Witch generally works alone and doesn’t adhere to any strict dogma—religious, spiritual, or otherwise. Hedge witches develop their own kind of magic, focusing primarily on creating healing remedies and often working with the elements, nature, crafts, and herbalism. Everything is kept simple and basic, and all rituals are non-fussy and minimalist. If you are drawn to solitude and wish to craft your own brand of witchcraft, unique to you, then you might be a hedge witch!

Kitchen Witch

Do you find yourself spending much of your free time and day in your kitchen? Do you like incorporating magic into cooking and baking, and find you choose herbs for their magical properties just as much as for their taste? Then you might be a Kitchen Witch! Remember that something as simple as “putting your love” into your cooking can be magick. If you are really drawn to working with potions this is also an indication that you are a Kitchen Witch. It might be time to invest in a Cauldron!

Forest Witch

Does being in nature and the forest in particular just heal your soul? Do you find yourself getting lost for hours in deep contemplation on forest walks, or adore foraging for the forest’s seasonal bounty? Then you might be a Forest Witch, also sometimes called a Green Witch! These magickal workers are all about nature, healing, and nurturing. They draw their power, tools, and rituals from the earth and the great outdoors. They use plant, flower, and herbal preparations as a primary source of spell ingredients and ritual content. Forest Witches respect nature above all else (although many other types of witches work with nature too)! If you feel drawn to the natural world, have a gift for healing and soothing, and enjoy gardening and tending to plants and herbs, this might be you!

Crystal Witch

Are you an Earth Zodiac sign? (I’m looking at you Taurus) Did you used to come home as a child with pockets full of special stones you found? Always have to stop into a crystal shop when you’re on vacation? Feel called out right now?!?!? Then you might be a Crystal Witch! Although I’m an air sign, I really relate to this. I absolutely adore crystals. If you really feel subtly attuned to vibes, and really love having crystals around your house, then I’m talking to you. Crystal witches are deeply connected to the vibration and power of crystals, gems, rocks, and stones. They practice crystal magic to manifest, amplify, and attract energy. If you see auras, feel energies, are a total magpie/squirrel for shiny things, and enjoy making grids, then this might very well be your witchy type!

Sea Witch

Always have to live close to a body of water, if not the ocean itself? Obsessed with mermaids? Does Moana make you cry every time because you just get the pull?!?! Walking the beach just heals your soul? I’m going to go out on a limb then and say, you’re a Sea Witch!!!! You’re in good company ladies, the ocean just calls to me too! Sea witches have a special connection to the ocean. They might practice water magic, use seawater in their rituals, bring seashells home for their altar, and pay special attention to the Moon (because it controls the tides, after all).

Cosmic Witch

Let me guess, your first foray into magick was Astrology? Are you highly analytically brained, and the language of mathematics just makes sense to you? Do you wake up at 2am just to go outside and catch a glimpse of the Leonid meteor shower? You might be a Cosmic Witch. Cosmic witches are all about astrology and astronomy. Their magick often focuses on the lunar energies of the Moon cycle, and spells that amplify or protect against celestial events. They are clued up on star signs and natal charts, and their practice is active, not passive. They seek to change energies by using their knowledge rather than just telling you that Scorpios are secretive! If you feel drawn to the skies above, and enjoy the complexities of the workings of the universe, you could be a Cosmic Witch.

In reality these “Which Witch” types are just a bit of fun. Most of us will find we identify with pieces of each of them. Your magick and practice is only limited by your imagination. Magick is around every corner and in life’s every day workings, big or small.
